Welcome to Old Stables Pottery!

The Old Stables Pottery, is owned and run by Mike Hannay.

Mike started his pottery journey back in 1984 and his love of ceramics has resulted in the conversion of an old stables building into a studio pottery where he can continue his passion of producing wheel thrown pots and helping others to enjoy ceramics too!

It's been a journey...

Mike is based in Yatton, North Somerset. He has had a long standing interest in ceramics, especially domestic stoneware pottery. Primarily interested in wheel work, Mike has studied pottery at numerous classes, summer schools and regional potteries.

Major influences have been David Frith (Brookhouse Pottery, North Wales), Mick Casson OBE and Jeremy Steward (Wobage near Ross-on-Wye), with local inspiration from potters Bill Moore and Ian Beckton.

Gallery display area...

The first floor hayloft has been transformed into an attractive gallery area to display the locally produced work.

Pots are initially bisque fired in our electric kiln, located in the downstairs glaze room.

After glazing, most of Mike’s work is gas reduction fired in a large gas kiln located adjacent to the pottery.
